Villains, Monsters and Oddities:
The Deacon — ascetic, soft-spoken and invariably dressed in ecclesiastical vestments, the Deacon controls the largest criminal organization in Astro City. Despite years of investigation, he has never been convicted of any crime.
PYRAMID — an international conspiracy aimed at conquering the world, they have been active for decades, and claim their roots reach back to the time of the Pharaohs.
The Living Nightmare — a violent, destructive manifestation of society's fears in humanoid form. At times, the Nightmare has been psychically controlled by a Marine pilot and turned into a force for good, but more often it has been a near-mindless creature lashing out in pain and rage.
Demolitia and the Unholy Alliance — a group of out-for-profit super-criminals, led by the wrecking-ball-wielding Demolitia. The Alliance has most recently included Flame-thrower, Glowworm, Slamburger and Spice (whose former partner, Sugar, was killed in a gun-battle with police).
The Junkman — an embittered and unwilling retiree, Hiram Potterstone, felt ill-used by society's disregard for the elderly. Using cast-off junk to create hi-tech weapons, he became the Junkman to show the world their mistake. After a spectacular crime spree and capture a few years ago, the Junkman is currently at large.
Steeljack — Carl Donewicz, a gang kid from Kiefer Square, became the metal-muscled Steel-Jacketed Man in order to escape his sordid life, but only found himself drawn deeper and deeper into crime. At one point, he was part of the Terrifying Three, along with the original Quarrel and the piratical Cutlass. In recent years, after a long stretch in prison, he has tried to go straight. He still lives in Kiefer Square.
Goldenglove — Maxie Costello, a small-time crook, found a pair of alien power-gloves and used them to make himself a more dangerous criminal. Since his death, his daughter Yolanda has been using the gloves, and may become a member of the Astro City Irregulars.
The Mock Turtle — Dr. Martin Chefwick, a brilliant-if-naïve armored villain from England, who used his intellect to try to impress the woman he loved, but found himself up to his neck in danger and crime. Ultimately, he made his way to Astro City, where he ended his career.
Mordecai Chalk — a professional monster-hunter, Chalk replaced much of his body with cybernetic parts after he was nearly killed by occult creatures. A mission into Shadow Hill, however, left him unlikely to continue his activities.
The Crimson Cougar — a superhero character on the popular soap opera Tomorrow's Dawn, the Crimson Cougar was briefly a sensation when Mitch Goodman, the actor who played him, performed heroic acts for real.
Looney Leo — a cartoon lion accidentally brought to life in the late 1940s, Leo has been a movie star, a TV show host, a vagabond and a super-criminal. He currently runs a nightclub in Astro City.
Butler's — an exclusive club for crimefighters, run by the former butler of the late Leopardman.
Bruiser's — a bar frequented by strongmen and physical freaks, it's owned and run by K.O. Carson, who as the Black Badge had been a hero of Bakerville through the Sixties and early Seventies.
