Thwarts Attempts to Recapture Petrov, Others

ASTRO CITY - An apparent kidnapping attempt was foiled last night by what may be a new hero on the Astro City scene, as what police have described as "Iron Curtain agents" attempted to capture noted defectors Dr. Vasily Petrov, Dr. Anton Markhovitch and Aleksandr Boigartin from the nuclear experimentation facility at the Atomic Research Laboratory at Fort Kanigher, south of the city, yesterday evening.

Federal authorities swiftly threw a top-secret security blanket over the proceedings, but a few photographs of the event have been released, and this paper has learned that the glowing being pictured suddenly appeared during the kidnapping attempt, overcoming the assailants with a tightly-controlled use of nuclear power. This creature, who we call "Atomicus" for lack of a better name, delivered the foreign agents to the authorities and then sped off into the skies. His current location is unknown. |
